Several things have happened that encouraged me to take pictures of our quilt trail and the beautiful country roadways that twist and turn through this area of our country. America's Backroads Magazine will be featuring the Kentucky Quilt trail in an upcoming issue. The Kentucky Dept of Tourism asked if I could help them get some information and pictures. A professor who teaches asset based development wanted some shots of Elliott County to use in his power point presentations to show our efforts and successes, and I need pictures for my WEB site. Thursday I went driving and found some awesome scenes of redbuds, greening trees, roadside flowers, dogwoods and all the signs of spring. I watch them every year and never have I seen the redbuds more beautiful than they are this year. The picture Johnathan posted for me is between Isonville and Sandy Hook on Route 30. Sometimes we become complacent with our surroundings and it takes a request like the the ones I got to inspire us to truly look around at the beauty of our Kentucky home; to experience it rather than just see it. This simple little focused drive was a renewal that I needed to make me push forward with all the projects I've started in the county. With the help of some wonderful volunteers we will get it all done. Then there will be more. But sometimes it takes something so simple or complex as a blossom from a redbud or a dogwood in full bloom to make us see what we are striving for.

I took a section of something I wrote last week to put here hoping it may inspire someone else to take a fresh look and regain inspiration during times of burn-out.

Yes, the world of work has changed and continues to evolve and flourish. There are ups and downs. Not everyone can be pleased it doesn’t matter how hard you try. But out there, yes out in the woods, there are no phones, no e-mail, no face to face meetings, no one needing answers, and no Ning or Blog.
No tree or flower or critter or brier or bee accuses anyone of being an elitist. Out there you can relax and watch the negative constraints of life float down stream. Everything has its place and is content with the master plan. Out there you don't think about the workload tomorrow brings, or the letter that should have been written yesterday, it’s all about the present, this precious moment in time. Out there, there are no computers or phones or broken down cars. Out there you can hear the birds flitting around the trees and feel the spring’s warm breeze. Out there the wildflowers are giving life to a sleeping forest floor. Carolina beauty, yellow trout lilies, trilliums, they awaken the brown leaves, remnants of last summer’s treasures. If you listen closely to the waterfalls and the clear streams you can hear them say “all is good” in a world where we too often emphasize the negative. These sounds, this freedom, the opportunity for escape to a stress free place, they destroy the menaces of a troubled mind and soul, replacing them with incredible intricate works of our creator.
I plan to take a walk in the woods today, why don’t you do the same. Get out, and let your stresses dissipate with winter’s chill, welcome the warmth of spring. Relax for a while and let your thoughts be happy ones. You may find a renewed sense of reality and truth. Be free and happy today.
